2022.01.20 11:43 sjtimmer7 Deity: how to deal with lots of warriors, denouncement after one turn after you meet a new civ, lots of cities/settlers from other civs from the start, and other stuff.
I just started my first game of Deity, and it did surprise me how big of a difference it is. Although I have played a religious game against Kongo, this was something I had forgotten about that game, mostly because that particular win was so easy.
Does anyone have any countermeasures?

2022.01.20 11:43 GephStrainger Finally had surgery for my endo after 10 years of fighting for doctors to take me seriously
As per the title, I finally had surgery today for my endo. I've been fighting for so many years for someone to take me seriously. As most of us experience, I was just told it's 'heavy and painful periods' even though I had pain out of cycle and would literally be bed ridden when it was that time of the month, and sometimes even out of cycle.
It's gotten progressively worse over the past few years, with the depo needle providing me a lot of relief because it stopped the periods, but then getting to the point where I have been in pain every single day of my life for the past year or so.
It has been so refreshing to find a GP who listens to my every concern, and referring me to a team of specialists who finally listened to me when I said something was not right.
Along the way I was also diagnosed with PCOS and confirmed that I am pre-diabetic. Told to lose weight, however the weightloss has been impossible. I lose 10 kilos then put it back on in half the amount of time it took to lose it. It feels like a constant battle and people just don't understand how incredibly hard it is on a daily basis.
The surgery went well. I'm home, and in a world of pain, however I'm glad it was done. I was given 2 days notice and have severe anxiety so it was almost better I had such little time to worry about it. But man was it scary.
Because of covid, I had to go through the entire thing alone in the hospital, but I was lucky enough that every member of staff I dealt with was wonderful - except my gyno. She said hello to me in the theatre room and never said another word to me before or after, and left it up to the resident doctor which was a bit upsetting.
I now have to deal with the fact that although the surgery was a 'success', there's no way to know when/ if it will all grow back, whether it will even help with the pain, what my chances of having a safe and natural pregnancy are, and whether I will have to endure more surgeries in the future.
I'm feeling really emotional and overwhelmed. My partner and I couldn't even be together before or after the surgery due to his overdemanding and over-expecting work. He's upset he can't be here for me either, and all we want is to be able to give each other a hug.
Sometimes I think us sufferers forget how much this affects our partners as well, to see us in pain all the time and just want the best. Talking about children and what the future holds, being told I have to decide to have children before I'm 30 or I will have a slim to none chance of being able to.... it's scary. This is my body and to know that choice can be taken away from me is terrifying, I don't even know if I want to have children of my own, I always wanted to adopt. But now I don't know. He told me yesterday that no matter what, my health comes first. I cried. I'm so lucky to have someone so supportive and loving, however I worry about the impact it had upon him as well, because this is also his journey as well as mine.
This illness sucks. There's no cure. They can keep operating, but the fact that it can just keep coming back, and get worse each time is scary.
None of my friends understand, they try to be there, but they just can't relate in any way as none of them suffer from either PCOS or endo, and to have both is a nightmare.
How do people get through this? For the people who have had surgery, whether it is one or more, how did you recover post-op? Not just physically, but mentally also.... I'm really struggling.

2022.01.20 11:43 andrejmihelic Which workout types are you missing in the default Workout app on the Apple Watch?
| Me again from Gentler Streak app. Not so long ago, I asked you what are you missing in the default Workout app on the Apple Watch, and the response was really useful. Thanks!|
Gentler Streak Apple Watch tracker will be ready sooner than expected, but I have one more thing to ask. We plan to add activities that are missing in the default Workout app on the Apple Watch. We added MTB, roller skating, ice skating, sledging, stand up paddling, wakeboarding, wind boarding and ... shovelling :) Are there any other workouts that you are missing?

England I have signed a contract over a year ago (which came with a pay increase) at my current employer which states that if I am to resign I should/must give 3 months notice. How could this be enforced and is this just to give the company more time in finding a potential replacement? As I am getting offers from other companies (different sectors not conflict of interest or anything like that).

2022.01.20 11:43 InnercircleLS Leo (The living embodiment of fear: Jupiterean from "The Master's Quest" universe)
Earth Name: Leo
Real name: (Guttural scream followed by immense crashing wave)
Race: Jupiterean (Master's Quest universe)
Age: 2200 earth years
Height: 13 feet 6 inches
Appearance: Large black demonic humanoid figure. Jupitereans have long tendrils protruding from their heads in the same manner that humans have hair. Leo has large hands with five fingers that end in razor sharp claws, and a long, thick, smooth tail. Jupitereans are all glossy black, with glowing, blue-white eyes, and otherwise featureless faces. Leo is average height. Jupitereans have thick skin that serves as natural armor, and can blend into most shadowy environments.
Abilities: The Jupiterean's tendrils each house a small portion of the Jupiterean's brain, along with an independent nervous system, muscular system, and impending danger sensors. Any individual tendril is strong enough to lift or support the being's entire body weight.
The thick skin serves as natural armor and their claws act as natural weapons.
Jupitereans navigate their home planet by projecting themselves forward with "light beam", a form of radiation that pushes their body around the environment despite the heavy winds and gravitational effects. This light beam can be used to negate the being's naturally heavy body weight for a bonus to stealth.
Light beam emanates from the Jupiterean's head tendrils, hands, and feet, Although they prefer to only use the head since that has the best control. The light beam can also be used in combat as a ranged attack. Range is 2 body lengths (in Leo's case, about 26 feet) costs high stamina, and deals low damage. It's much better used as a way to get around than an actual weapon.
Actual combat skills:
Grapple: Leo can grab an opponent up to 3 times his size and 64 times his weight. His head tendrils can bend thick steel armor plating and his hands can crush an engine block.
Hand to hand: Leo is experienced in battle, but has not been formally trained in any specific fighting style. He counts on his superior intelligence, size, and strength to win most hand to hand fights. He is not particularly skilled with any weapons. He is not particularly skilled at, or fond of, using kicks or anything to do with his legs in a combat situation.
Skills: Field leadership, tactical experience, and wartime pattern recognition. (Basically he's been in enough battles to know what certain tactics look like as they're being set up.)
Climbing: due to his tendrils and his light beam weight assist, Leo is an excellent climber.
Long/ high jump: when paired with light beam, he can jump clear across a field or halfway up a mountain.
Fighting speed/ intelligence: he's good at picking up on fighting styles and adapting. His 64 tendrils all assist in ensuring he has the maximum advantage in a hand to hand fight. They fight for him like extra hands and can catch opponents and pick them up
Personality: Leo is kind. He's protective of his friends and unwavering in his beliefs. He believes in fairness and "everybody pitches in". He does not like seeing people being lazy or trying to skip out on work. He likes the outdoors since his tendrils can writhe around all over in the open air without breaking things. (Which happens all the time if he is inside)
His tendrils each have a mind of their own, and they're almost always moving. The more excited he is, the more wild their motion is. He likes making new friends, especially humans, since most humans fear him from the first time they see him.
Flaws and dislikes: Leo is distracted easily and likes for others to take the lead. He will only step up in a combat scenario, or if no one else knows what to do. He can be quite disruptive in conversations. He can devolve into anger if someone doesn't seem to be "pulling their weight" to help the party succeed.
Allies: Annabella, Rob, Lance
NPC Connections: his human wife, Lin.
Weaknesses: Although his tough external skin can be quite resistant, he can be pierced or slashed with a sufficiently sharp weapon, or crushed/hurt by a large enough bludgeoning device. His skin hardens as it is hit meaning if you have something sharp enough, or you hit him hard enough, his armor becomes brittle and can break. High level attack magic can hurt or kill him. Basically he's resistant to a lot of things, and he's usually smart and fast enough not to get hit, but he's not invincible by any means.
Backstory: I will come and fill this in later
