[Hotham - Party Post 1 - 3rd] Horror Speaks at Newcastle Town Hall about the Greens plan for the Economy

2021.12.02 22:48 Aussie-Parliament-RP [Hotham - Party Post 1 - 3rd] Horror Speaks at Newcastle Town Hall about the Greens plan for the Economy

Welcome to those of us here today and those tuning in across Australia as we end campaigning today with a final blitz across the country.

Today I am in Newcastle to talk about the Greens plan for the economy. Newcastle is a significant symbol of our economy as it represents a critical regional city and a linkage between the urban economic region of Sydney and the more rural economic powerhouses of the Hunter Valley and Central Coast.
But the Greens plan isn't just about Newcastle; it's a plan for the whole of Australia's economy - a plan to put our national output to work for the workers.

Our first proposal is the revitalising and return of Australia's manufacturing industry. It is an accepted economic fact that whilst the services industry can expand upon wealth, at the end of the day, the country's industrial and extractive workers are generating that wealth in the first place. That's why the Greens are committed to bringing back the industries that drive innovation and wealth creation - high-level manufacturing. Developing nations might have beaten Australia on low cost, low-level manufacturing, but our innovative nation has the determination, the education and the dedication to bring high level, advanced manufacturing back onshore. This revival of manufacturing will provide thousands of jobs across Australia, from right here in Newcastle, down to Wollongong, and into the suburbs of Melbourne and Adelaide and even the regional centres of Queensland. And these jobs won't just be low paid jobs, but the highly paid, skilled manufacturing jobs that will deliver for the working class. As part of the Greens commitment to environmental sustainability, these manufacturing industries will be environmentally sustainable - competing with advanced producer nations not just on quality but also on green credentials. Revitalising our manufacturing industry is the ticket to economic success and self-determination for Australians. The Greens are proud to be the party genuinely committed to bringing Australian manufacturing back, not just in one suburb or town, but in every state, city and regional centre.

Our second proposal strongly links in with the proposal for industrial revisitation; that proposal? The idea of Fair Trade, not just Free Trade. Nobody can deny that for a significant portion of the population, the liberalisation of Australia's trade, manufacturing and financial services has brought increased wealth and a higher standard of living. But travelling through the former industrial areas of Sydney, or Adelaide, or Melbourne or even right here in Newcastle, it's clear that there have been far too many losers. Whilst globalisation and free trade are noble ideals, ultimately, a government must put the welfare of its people above mainstream economic dogma. Thus the Greens will be looking to expand protectionist measures where appropriate to bring back manufacturing, secure our agricultural sector's survival and strengthen our national security and our economic prosperity. Free Trade has delivered enormous benefits to so many people. Still, it is undeniable that widening economic inequality and the continued and unmoving statistic of one in six children living in poverty are linked to the failure to ensure that Australia's liberalisation was fair and free for all of us. The Greens are determined to right that wrong. Fair Trade over Free Trade is the goal, and a Greens government is the tool to achieve it.

Our third proposal is to criminalise wage theft across Australia and implement harsher penalties on corporations found to be stealing their employees' labour. By creating a $500 million anti-wage theft task force within the Department of Industry and the full support of a Greens Attorney General and their Department, Wage Theft can be tackled and eliminated across the country. Corporations have had a free ride to extract the wealth of Australian workers on unfair and unequal grounds for too long. The Greens will ensure that the grossest excess of direct wage theft is dealt with quickly, efficiently and responsibly.

Our fourth proposal, and the final one I'll speak about here today, but by no means the least nor the last, is our proposal to boost workers co-ops. Already this Greens Government has expanded workers co-ops by delivering a 5-10% tax cut on cooperative enterprises. This tax cut will help established co-ops continue their mission of a fairer, more efficient and worker-led economy. But we also recognise that more needs to be done to ensure that workers can create co-ops in the first place. That's why we are unveiling a $500 million co-operatisation fund that will provide low or no-interest loans to workers looking to buy out their business during bankruptcy or sales to convert it into a workers cooperative. This fund is an efficient means of creating new workers co-ops without relying on expensive state intervention or other messy methods. It is also a way to prevent unemployment and business closure while keeping our business onshore rather than allowing them to be transferred overseas. The Greens are committed to an economy that works for workers, not just big business interests. Delivering the Grassroots Democracy of Workers Cooperatives is just one fundamental way of ensuring that our economy puts people over profits.

With all of that said, I think it's time to wrap up today's campaign event. The bottom line is this; the Greens are the party getting results for Australians. We have been the team working for you always, and with this next term coming up, we are more ready than ever to go further with delivering the economic and financial reform that Australians need and deserve. In summary, the Greens economic plans for the next term are bold but straightforward: We'll be ending the war on unions, nationalising our strategic assets in water and energy, encouraging worker cooperatives, bringing back high-level manufacturing to Australia, expanding the Federal Government's economic powers, ending wage theft, implementing minimum taxes on big business and billionaires, achieving transparency in taxation and putting fair trade over free trade. That's quite a lot of policies, and if you'd like any more information on any of them, then I strongly encourage you to check out our manifesto and speak to any of our lovely volunteers or candidates across the country.

Bye for now, but remember this - Back The Team That's Working - vote #1 Greens and vote #1 Miraiwae!

2021.12.02 22:48 instantdepresso Retaking (?) Bio 204

I got a few questions as a sophomore that just calculated their lab grade:
I calculated my grade and will probably get a D for bio 204. I know they may add a few points at the end of the semester as per the syllabus. Did anyone that previously took it have any hope for me pulling a C out of my ass?
I also got a D previously in phy 132 during my freshman year. And since they’re major req’s i have to retake both these courses. I’m a sophomore in my first semester with 77/120 credits, do you guys think I can graduate on time while retaking these courses?
Just feeling a lil stressed. Thank you.

In laws are far down the Q hole, we don’t usually argue with them, but with vax info we try to share corrected information. MIL just sent this thread, I know the numbers are being misinterpreted, but having difficulty finding how to explain it to her.

2021.12.02 22:48 PotenciaMachina Founders with radical solutions, where you all at?

I provide a service way ahead of its time: the ability to master a skill in months instead of years. Most people believe it's not possible, so I have to educate them, one by one. I suppose some would think the task horrible, but I live for this idea so I don't mind.
What's bad is that I feel lonely. Like I'm doing all this by myself and lack colleagues that get it. Where do you find people like this? I'd appreciate some guidance.
